Diane’s Basket Weave Summer Hat

Materials:
Stitch markers
Needles: 2 size 7 circular needles (or size to obtain gage)
Yarn: 2 skeins of Knit Picks Shine Sport (Harbor)
Directions:
Cast on 200 stitches.
Join being carful not to twist. Place marker at beginning of round.

Brim:
Slip stitches should be slipped Knit Wise.
Round 1-2: YO, (S1, K1, PSSO), P5, K2tog, YO, K1 – repeat around
Round3-4: K1, YO, (S1, K1, PSSO), P3, K2tog, YO K2 – repeat around
Round 5-6: K2, YO, (S1, K1, PSSO), P1, K2tog, YO, K3 – repeat around
Round 7-8: K2tog, YO, K1, YO, (S1, K1, PSSO), P5 – repeat around
Round 9-10: YO, K3, YO, (S1, K1, PSSO), P3, K2tog – repeat around
Round 11-12: K5, YO, (S1, K1, PSSO), P1, K2tog, YO – repeat around
Work these 12 rounds 2 times.
Next round: K2tog around leaving 100 stitches.

Cap:
Rounds: 1-4: K3, P7 – repeat around
Rounds: 5-6: Knit
Rounds: 7-10: P5, K3, P2 – repeat around
Rounds: 11-12: Knit

Decrease:
When it gets too small to comfortably work on one needle slip half the stitches on another circular needle and continue to work in the round. Shift stitches around as necessary to complete pattern.
Round 1: K3, P3, P2tog, P2 – repeat around
Round 2: K3, P2, P2tog, P2 – repeat around
Round 3: K3, P2, P2tog, P1 – repeat around
Round 4: K3, P1, P2tog, P1 – repeat around
Round 5: K3, P1, P2tog – repeat around
Round 6: K3, P2tog – repeat around
Round 7: K2, K2tog – repeat around
Round 8: (K1, K2tog) 3 times, K1 - – repeat one more time
Round 9: K2tog – repeat around

Cut yarn and thread through remaining 7 stitches. Pull tight and secure yarn. Weave in ends.
K – Knit
K2tog – Knit 2 together
P – Purl
P2tog – Purl 2 together
PSSO – Pass Slipped Stitch Over the knit stitch
S1 – Slip one knit wise
YO – Yarn Over
