Moving

I want something a bit more organized so I am moving the blog to a web page - Heidi's Home Today. Please be patient with me during the mess of moving.

Mulberry Sweet Socks

I made these socks to go with the sweater and hat that completes a layette set for our charity group.

I really like this pattern. It is one of the few I have found that works with worsted weight yarn. I used #7 circular needles. I was able to finish them in under 2 hours. The pattern is very well written.

The Exploder

The week was overshadowed by the weekend.

On Friday, I had a girl’s day in Santa Fe with my friend Doris. I was looking for buttons and found these

And a few more I did not get photos of. We had a great time visiting my favorite yarn stores. First, we went to Looking Glass yarns where I found some buttons not pictured. Then after finding some parking, we walked over to Tuttos. They have a lovely button collection but not what I was looking for. There was a bead store between Tuttos and the parking that had the lovely green and blue beads that will make lovely buttons. Because we were also waiting for Doris’s car to be repaired, we saved Miriam’s Well for last. It is so nice to just sit and knit while visiting with Miriam in her cozy sitting area. I found the round buttons there. I am using the sort of tan buttons for my cardi.

Saturday we needed to be up and out early because we were heading to ABQ to buy clothes for Kat. Just as I got to ABQ the O/D off light started to flash. We picked up my mom and headed over to the mall – then the O/D off light was flashing and the Service Engine soon light was on in addition it was shifting badly. We took it to the Ford dealership (it is a 2003 Explorer). They gave us a ride to the mall.

At the mall, we had great luck for Kat in Macy’s. Here is one cute outfit.

And another.
A cool hoodie.
At lunch the Ford people called me and told me that not only did the transmission need to be rebuilt that it was going to cost more than the car was worth. Therefore, either Explorers are not worth much or they were just trying to get me to buy a new car. Either way I am very disappointed in these people. When I asked why it broke at only 100,000 miles, they said that cars have many parts and eventually something will brake. Well if that is the way they make Fords now (I have had three and two of them are a lot older and still going strong) then maybe I am done with Ford. I am not sure what we are going to do about it right now but I am so happy there is a bus system here so I don’t have to get a new car right away.

When I do decide to get another car I will be looking for a sedan with four doors, standard transmission, windows that roll down with a crank instead of a button, front wheel drive, a back seat with plenty of legroom, and large trunk.

I ended up spending the night in ABQ and then next morning on the way home we looked at the new cars. Really, Sunday morning is a good time to go because they are closed and you can look without being harassed. I liked the Honda Civic and Hyundai Sinata best of all but we did not look at Toyota and I did not see any Taurus cars at the Ford dealer. Then we looked at the lemon lot up on the hill they had a Volvo and Golf that looked good with a much better price tag.

After all, of that I really did not feel like doing anything yesterday. I caught up with some laundry that should have been done on Friday and watched movies while I knitted on the sweater.

I sewed the buttons on the Flair Annette sweater and now it is completely done.

This week will be about remembering how to use the bus again. We got snow this morning.

We are supposed to get more on Wednesday so I would probably have been riding the bus this week even if my car were working.
